Brampton
community hosted their swim meet at Cassie Campbell Community Centre,
1050 Sandalwood Pkwy West, Brampton. There were 10 team from the province. The
teams that participated were as follows.
Aurora Special Ducks.
Brampton Panthers.
Burlington Barracudas.
Dundas Seahawks.
Mt.Hamilton Otters.
Oakville Marlins.
Port Colborne Marlins.
St.Catharines Dolphins.
Sudbury Sunfish.
Variety Village Sunshine.

18 Basketball teams participated in Mississauga Basketball
tournament held at University of Toronto in Mississauga. This is second year
the tournament was at this facility. Teams enjoy playing at the beautiful University
Gym. Mississauga has been running this tournament for last 10 years. Team had a
great day and enjoyed their lunch at the food court. All divisions/teams played 3 games each. 29 games total. Volunteers
(scorekeepers) all 14/15 year olds from the Mississauga Monarchs House League
program.
Referees
were senior refs, also from the Monarchs program.
The
competition was a great example of fun and good sportsmanship. |

10 teams about 130 athletes and 300 volunteers, parents and
coaches attended the 7th annual Oakville Invitational Track & Field meet,
hosted at Iroquois Ridge High School, Oakville (Region 5) by the Lightning
Track Club. Teams from Brampton,
Brantford, Grimsby-Lincoln, Hamilton, Durham, KW, Welland, North York, St.
Catherines and Oakville were in attendance. The weather was great and everybody
had lots of fun. They also had time at
the end of the day to run a 4X100 m relay event for both the men and women. The
music during lunch was a hit!
volunteer crew had a great day and really appreciated the help they received
from the coaches and managers in lining up heats and getting organized at the
field events.
Oakville Special Olympics would like to thank Tim Hortons
(2355 Trafalgar Road, Oakville) for donating the coffee, Stephenson's Rent All
for use of a generator at a discounted price,
Real Canadian Superstore for donating the water and Mr. Submarine, 261
Oak Walk Drive, Oakville for providing discounted lunches and for their
excellent service.

August 30 2011 Region 3 Bocce qualifier Tournament:
Special
Olympics Port Colborne hosted there first Bocce qualifier tournament... Around
61 athletes participated over the period of two days. Port Colborne Bocce
started about 25 years ago and has around 50 plus athletes. Special Olympics
Welland registered a Bocce club this season and there were 11 athletes from
Welland. All athletes and parents present had a wonderful evening.

began at 8:00am; athletes were served coffee juice and timbits upon arrival.
Games
started at 9.00AM. All teams present had wonderful tournament.

July 30 2011 Brampton Golf Open:
Brampton Fairway Flyers coach, Margie Abbott and team manager,
Julie Borges hosted their very first Golf Invitational
on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Peel Village Golf Club in
Brampton. The Brampton Fairway Flyers club had a total of 14 athletes
participating in the Golf Invitational with Jason Walker taking the Oath.
Sean Durkin and Trevor Killam of Peel Village Golf Club worked diligently with
Margie and Julie in the planning, organizing and fruition of this
event. Supporters for this event included Starsky’s Fine Foods, Wal Mart,
Sobey’s and Metro with a very generous donation to club made by Scott Abbott. Other
donors and sponsors, included Golf
Town, Jim Walker, Peel Village Golf Club, CIBC, 2nd Cup, Canada Bread, and Barb
Vivian
Brampton welcomed Kingston's Garrison Eagles, Haliburton's Red
Wolves, London Eagles, Collingwood's Georgian Bay Breakers, Mississauga,
Wasaga's Above Par and Thornbury Thunder with a grand total of 48
participants. The Brampton community stepped up to the
plate, graciously volunteering throughout the day with various jobs making
this event a great success. Invited
guest, Councillor John Sanderson joined for the afternoon, meeting athletes and
volunteers as well as walking the course mingling with the foursomes. Positive
feedback was received by all in attendance but most importantly the
athletes who had a fabulous time golfing, meeting new people and building
friendships.
